PDP Senators threaten revenge if Saraki fails to declare seat of defected Senator vacant

Following the defection of Senator Yela Omogunwa representing Ondo South Senatorial district from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which led PDP senators to walk out of plenary on Wednesday, the PDP Senate caucus has vowed to extract a pound of flesh if the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, refused to declare the seat of the Ondo senator vacant.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, insisted that the reason which was given by the defector was not tenable, hence the PDP will not agree to that.

Akpabio pleaded without journalists to tell Saraki to declare the lawmaker’s seat vacant with immediate effect.

“I am pleading with you journalists to tell Mr. Senate President to quickly declare vacant the seat of Omogunwa so that PDP can bring in another Senator,” Akpabio pleaded.?

The party’s caucus in the Senate claimed that the Senator carried out anti-party activities in the just-concluded Ondo gubernatorial election.

They stated that the letter was written before the Ondo gubernatorial election, adding that Omogunwa said he was going to assist the APC candidate to win while he was still a Senator on the platform of PDP.

” You agree with us that the letter was written before Ondo election of his intention to defect which he said he would assist the APC to win,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central Senatorial district was immediately asked to act as the Minority leader in today’s plenary, following the walkout staged by the PDP lawmakers.

Omo-Agege is representing his senatorial district on the platform of the Labour Party.
