Ken Varsity: Andoni students demands polytechnic

By: Felix Ikpotor

National President of the National Union of Andoni Students [NUAS], Comr. Etete Ekeneoriono has applauded Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the planned upgrade of the Kenule Beason Saro-Wiwa polytechnic to a University of Environment.

The president while commending the governor also appealed to the state government to cite a polytechnic in Andoni Local Government Area.

The Andoni student leader came out with this in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt.

According to Etete, “A University of Environment in Bori-Ogoni, Rivers State is a well thought out move by the Governor of Rivers State, we appreciate the governor for such gesture to our Ogoni neighbors. It is indeed a deserving immortalization of the late Ogoni Environmental Activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa”.

The NUAS boss added that I think it would be appropriate for the governor to in his magnanimity cite a Polytechnic (preferably) Rivers State Polytechnic in any community in Andoni Local Government Area.

He explained that citing a polytechnic in the area will bring education closer to the doorstep of the Andoni people and other neighboring Local Government Area or communities, drastically reduce the resort to arm among  youths of the area and thereby reducing crime rate.

Speaking further, Etete said the citing of the school will create employment for graduates and youths from the area and other parts of the state, catalyze rapid development of the area which has long been underdeveloped and discourage rural-urban migration thereby enhancing the economic boom of the Andoni Local Government Area.

While appealing to the governorto kindly consider this opinion of mine and have his name written on the hearts of Andoni peopIe, he urged political leaders from the area to join in pressurizing the governor to heed to the demand of the students.
