Accord: Rivers court sacks Lulu-Briggs as governorship candidate

By: Felix Ikpotor

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike may be having a smooth ride to the Government House for a second term , this is even as  Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt Thursday, ordered the removal of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the state.

Lulu-Briggs is touted to be the only formidable candidate since the All Progressives Congress, APC, which is the major opposition in the state has no candidate.

Justice E.A Obile while delivering  a five-hour judgement said Dumo Lulu-Briggs did not participate in the primaries of Accord Party and should not be the beneficiary of the governorship ticket.

The court held that Precious Baridoo who contested the party primary did not at any time relinquish his candidature to anyone.

The judge  therefore, ordered that the name of Lulu-Briggs be removed and replaced with Precious Baridoo.

The court also barred the Kalabari-born oil magnate from parading himself as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party.

Addressing journalists outside the court, counsel to Dumo Lulu-Briggs and Accord Party, Omoniyi Dauda-Abdulkareem said his client will approach the Court of Appeal to seek justice on the judgment.

Counsel to Precious Baridoo, Mr Wori Wori said his client can now participate in the 9th March Governorship election.

The plaintiff had challenged the nomination of Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the Governorship Candidate of Accord Party in the state, arguing that Dumo did not participate in the primaries.

PHSpectator recalls that Dumo Lulu-Briggs, son of the late Philanthropist, Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs decamped to Accord Party after he lost his bid to secure the governorship ticket of his former party, the All Progressives Congress, APC,
