Rivers govt relaxes restriction of movement during Saturday’s sanitation exercise

By: Felix Ikpotor

The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) says movement of persons and vehicles would not be restricted as earlier announced during  tomorrow’s monthly exercise between the hours of 7 am and 10 am.

A statement by the Sole Administrator of the Agency, Bro. Felix Obuah said the decision to relax the restriction of human and vehicular movement was taken to allow students free movement to write the National Common Entrance Examination which would hold across the country, including Rivers State on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Obuah said the relaxation on movement restriction also became necessary to enable parents take their children to the various centers to write the National Common Entrance Examination holding in Rivers State.

The agency also cited the ongoing All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in Port Harcourt as another reason to relax restriction of movement as this would enable athletes and visitors have unfettered access to and from the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Center, venue of the championships.

Obuah  said although restriction of human and vehicular movements has been relaxed, the state-wide Sanitation Exercise would still hold across the state, and enjoined residents and those doing business in the State to clean their homes, offices, business areas, surroundings; and empty their water channels for free flow of water.

The RIWAMA boss said that as usual, the sanitation exercise would commence at 7 am to 10 am across the 23 local Government Area of the State, and appealed to corporate organizations, truck owners and public spirited individuals particularly in Port Harcourt, the State capital and its environs to make available their trucks for evacuation of wastes during the period as a way of appreciating Governor Wike’s efforts in keeping the State clean and healthy.

“In this vein, I also call on the Local Government Chairmen and their deputies, Councilors in their respective wards, including all levels of community leaders to ensure that the dream of a healthy Rivers State and sustaining of the Garden City status of Port Harcourt is fully realized”, Bro. Obuah said.
