Be wary of fancy greener pastures abroad, Banigo warns young girls

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has advised young girls in the State not to be carried away by fancy stories of greener pastures abroad.

Dr. Banigo gave this advice while playing host to members of the Immigration Officers Wives Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, 6th November, 2019.

The Deputy Governor said those who lure the young girls do not really tell them the truth about their destination and the kind of jobs to be done only for them to be exposed to torture and all forms of abuse with little or no prospect of coming back home in one piece.

Dr. Banigo who expressed her desire to partner with the Immigration Officers Wives Association in protecting the Girl Child said “we must encourage our young girls to be all they can be,  they are talented, we cannot allow them to be trafficked or allow them to get into wrong hands that abuse them, even members of their families, their close relations at home who want to take advantage of them, abuse and  cut short their destiny, we should  be able to educate them, inform, support and encourage them to fulfil their God given golden destinies”. Dr. Banigo further stressed.

The Deputy Governor who said she is always happy to see women with brilliant ideas, disclosed that God has created women to be multi-tasking, brilliant and passionate, noting that she is pleased with the poverty alleviation programme of the immigration Officers Wives Association.

In her remarks the Leader of the Association, Mrs. Agatha Odika informed the Deputy Governor that they were in her office to formally introduce the Immigration Officers Wives Association of Nigeria to her.

She said the Association is a platform for the wives of serving immigration officers with the objective of promoting the welfare of members.
