As part of measures to forestall escalation of crime in the Niger Delta region, a non-governmental organization, Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in Niger Delta (PIND) has trained 90 youths of the region on early crisis information gathering and response.
The initiative it was gathered is to help security agencies and other organizations involved in peace building strategise and respond adequately to crisis situations in the region. It is also intended to promote peace and security in the Niger Delta region and create environment for sustainable livelihood for the people.
Speaking during the training held in Port Harcourt, the Capacity Building Coordinator of PIND, Chukwudi Njoku stated that early gathering of crisis signals would help the organization to do research, ensure policy formation and implementation towards peace building.
“ The training of 90 young persons including males, females and persons living with disabilities across the nine Niger Delta states on reporting early conflicts signals, peace-building processes and practice will contribute to an early response system to conflicts.
“The young people have been trained on different peace building and management modules, including leadership, volunteerism, conflict analysis, conflict management, as well as identify and report conflict signals to help to help security agencies on how best they can respond to conflicts early enough before they escalate into violence,” he said.
