Pastor, 2 others killed in Rivers

As the spate of killings continued in oil-rich Rivers State, unknown gunmen have reportedly killed three persons, including a pastor of Lord’s Chosen Church, at different spots in state.

Meanwhile, abductors of a Port Harcourt based legal practitioner, Mr. Wole Akindutire, are now demanding N10 million ransom for his release.

Although, details of the pastor cannot be ascertain as at the time of filing this report, we learnt he was killed Monday night on his way to church in Ofuomini community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of the State.

Details of the second victim alleged to be a cultist could not also be ascertain at press time.

On Monday at about 11pm,unknown assassins also killed an aide to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the State, simply identified as Godknows.

The late former aide popularly known as Babadiba, was reportedly shot dead after the assassins visited his house and ordered him out.

The deceased was the Special Adviser to the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sobomabo Jackrich, on Business Development.

We gathered that the kidnap gang that abducted Akindutire has established contact with his family and demanded for the ransom.

The lawyer was kidnapped two weeks ago by unknown gunmen at about 10 pm along Ada George Road, Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, has appealed to the kidnappers to release the victim unconditionally.

Publicity Secretary of the association, Port Harcourt branch, Mr. Angus Chukwuka, in his appealed urged abductors of the lawyer to consider the health challenges of the victim and release him unconditionally.

“We still appeal to them to re-consider their request for ransom, knowing that the present economic atmosphere in Nigeria is witnessing unprecedented decline.

“We appeal to them to, please, release our colleague immediately without the payment of ransom, especially, considering his condition of health, which is currently raising concerns among his colleagues, friends and family”

Mr. Chukwuka wondered why lawyers have become the target of kidnappers.

“We do not ask for any citizen to be kidnapped; but, we wonder why the interest in kidnapping lawyers.”
