Rivers State Chapter of the National Association of SEADOGS has identified education and communication as key to addressing the security challenges in the state.
SEADOG in a communiqué signed by its State Capon, Herbert Nwaka at the end of a one day security summit in Port Harcourt tagged; “driving security to the grassroot for a peaceful coexistence” said there was need to adequately sensitize the people especially those at the local villages on the importance of sustainable peace and its role in the growth and development of the society.
The group while urging the state and federal government to always see the security and welfare of the people as their primary concern noted that, “Preventive security is more desirable than the curative security”.
The communiqué recommended that for the Rivers State Government under Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to win the fight against insecurity, there should be a comprehensive and intensive re-orientation campaign and town hall meetings that will engage everybody in the state particularly the grassroot, market women, traditional rulers, youth bodies in dialogue using both formal and informal settings.
While pledging to assist the government in achieving sustainable peace in the state, the group called for provision of security policy and cooperation among security agencies via intelligence information sharing and meetings.
The communiqué further reads; “Government must provide enabling economic climate so that our teeming population of youths can be gainfully employed and empowered. They must allow the will of the hold sway by refraining from dabbling into matters of installation and appointment of youth leaders”.
