Reports say unknown gunmen last night attempted havoc on a Federal Prisons located in the old township axis of Port Harcourt.
Sources say the gunmen whose mission is yet unknown shot sporadically into the air causing residents of nearby Dockyard, Prisons and Bundu Waterfront settlement to scamper for their dear life.
Similarly two persons have been killed by suspected gunmen at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex located few meters away from the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Although, reasons for the coordinated attacks are still sketchy, unconfirmed say it may not be unconnected with the proposed arraignment of three suspects standing trial over the alleged killing of a Niger-Delta warlord, Soboma George.
Soboma George was killed six years ago by gunmen at number six field in Town, Port Harcourt.
According to reports, one of the security operatives was strangled to death while the other died by the bullets.
Another security operative was brutally wounded with matchete.
The incident we learnt happened in the early hours of today.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, who visited the scene of the killings, said,
“The action is regrettable but we assure our Judiciary workers of their safety and we will ensure that the perpetrators of this act will be found.”
Efforts to get the Controller and Deputy Controller of prisons yielded no result but security has been beefed-up in and around the court premises and the prisons.
