Two MASSOB members killed, two policemen injured, shop razed in Onitsha

No fewer than two members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra, MASSOB, were reported killed, two policemen attached to Okpoko police Division, Onitsha suburb, Anambra state, sustained injuries and a shop razed yesterday.

Trouble started for the MASSOB members when one of them resisted arrest by the two policemen as a woman lodged case of assault against him.

He was said to have called his members numbering about 20 on phone and on arrival at the scene, Udeaja/Ibe Street, attacked the policemen who gripped the suspect.

The policemen in self defense used the suspect as shield while the attack was on and on the process a team of policemen arrived on a tip-off which made the members to run away while the suspect was arrested.

At the police station he reportedly complained of severe pains as a result of the attack on the policemen that used him as shield as bulk of the beating from MASSOB members went to him and he died minutes

later.

Another MASSOB member died when a rival group reportedly beat him to coma at Edeh Road.

It was gathered that trouble started for the deceased when a woman complained to a MASSOB member that a rival member assaulted her and immediately the member mobilized his colleagues and they beat him to coma and he died minutes after.

In anger and to show solidarity to the deceased, residents of Okpoko mobilized and razed the shop of the woman while she fled for her dear life.

Confirming the incident, the Okpoko DPO, Mr. Olabanji Kayode said investigation is on-going.
