…As Assembly gives approval

Just a few weeks after the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was given approval by the State Assembly to access 10 billion naira bail-out fund from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, the governor has wrote again to the assembly to grant him approval to borrow another 10billion naira.

It would be recalled that few days to the commencement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national congress in the state, the governor wrote the assembly to borrow 10 billion naira which the opposition accused him of using to fund the PDP congress.

However, the governor in his letter to the assembly today and read in plenary by the speaker, Dabotorudima Adams requested the assembly to grant him approval to access the Infrastructure and Capital Development Fund from the CBN.

The Infrastructure and Capital Development Fund is a fund meant for the financing of capital projects domiciled with the CBN for states to borrow from.

Wike in the letter said the money is needed to complete on-going projects in the state.

The governor noted that the reconstruction of the Prof. Tam David-West/ Obiri Ikwere Road and the Saakpenwa-Kono Road would gulp 14 billion naira and as such the government needs the money to finance the project.

Wike in another request asked the house to ratify the 2 billion naira Small Medium and Micro Enterprise Development loan it earlier collected from the CBN.

Speaker of the assembly after listening to contributions from members gave the approval and equally ratified the already accessed loan.

Similarly, the Rivers State House of Assembly, RVHA has bid farewell to one of its deceased former member, Monday Eleanya.

Eleanya represented Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency 1 in the assembly between 1999 and 2003.

Leader of the assembly, Martins Amaewhule while condoling with the family, described the deceased as a seasoned lawmaker and a peaceful and unassuming politician who sacrificed for his people, urging the family to take solace in God.

Deputy Speaker of the assembly, Marshal Uwom on his part, described the deceased as a great loss to the state.

It would be recalled that Monday Eleanya was murdered along the Ada-George axis of Port Harcourt last year.
