Euro 2016: France zoomed into last 16

By: Felix Ikpotor

The host nation, France, became the first team to qualify for the quarter-final of the ongoing European Championship last night after they beat Albania 2-0 in Marseille.

Late goals from Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet broke a stubborn Albanian side to help the French side reach the knockout stages.

In the earlier game in Group A, Switzerland was held to a 1-1 draw by Romania in Paris.

Marek Hamsik stole the show on the day, as Slovakia beat Russia 2-1 in Lille in Group B.

Hamsik picked out Vladimir Weiss for the opener in the 32nd minute, before doubling their lead before the break.
