Our witnesses are ready to testify against Kanu – FG

Federal Government says its witnesses are ready to testify against Nnamdi Kanu, the acclaimed spokesperson of Biafra

  1. S. Labaran who is from the Department of Public Prosecution made the disclosure at the resumed hearing today..

The embattled IPOB leader is facing treason charges, alongside two others, Benjamin Madugwu and James Nwawuisi.

Labaran told the court that, “Our witnesses are readily available to testify in this ongoing trial matter and we have from now till Thursday.”

The prosecutor brought to the notice of the court a fresh motion from the defense which needed to be heard.

He said, “The prosecution was confronted this morning with a motion and there is a clear indication that the defendants were out to truncate the proceedings of this court. I feel it will be important we respond to the motion.”

The lead counsel, Chuks Mouma, SAN, while commenting on the fresh motion said, “I saw the motion this morning which says all the accused persons are applicants. As the applicants are no longer been represented by the same counsel, the lawyer in contention must make up his mind if they want to be part of the motion.”

Mouma, however, lamented the introduction of a new counsel to the defence team without his knowledge and however, prayed the court for time to allow the latest addition into the defence team, Amobi Nzelo, study the documents relating to the ongoing trial.

“My lord, I will be asking for more time to allow Nzelo study the documents on the trial which is very bulky,” Mouma said.

After listening to the counsels, the trial judge adjourned the matter till September 26 and 29 for hearing of the defendants motion and continuation of trial.
