A woman identified simply as Saratu was yesterday arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly burning the private parts of her nephew, Razak Qudus, with a stove after he was accused of stealing N100.
According to Punch, the 7-year-old victim, who is a primary four pupil in a private school, lived with the suspect in the Afariogun, Oshodi area of the state.
Concerned neighbours who were in the know if the incident reported the matter to one Ebenezer Omejalile, a coordinator of the Child Protection Network living in the area.
Omejalile was said to have intervened and subsequently reported the matter to the police at the Makinde Division, Oshodi, and Saratu was arrested.
According to Omejalile, the victim was taken to a hospital for a checkup while the police charged the suspect to court.
He said, “The victim is her nephew. The boy attends a private nursery and primary school around Afariogun Junction. He was accused of stealing the money in the school and the woman brutalised the boy’s genitals.
“While we were at the police station, I also informed the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Alausa.
“I am sure justice will be done in this matter. The boy has been taken into government’s custody,” Omejalile added.
Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said “The suspect rubbed pepper on the boy’s genitals and started beating him.
“The boy in the process fell on a burning stove and incurred burns in his private parts.
“The suspect has been charged to court and remanded in prison,” Badmos added.
