Rivers State governor, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in his drive to stamp out crime and its related activities in the state on Saturday led security agencies to demolish criminal hideouts in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt city local government area.
The demolished criminal camps are; gwo-gwo dawn behind Redeemed Christian church and Andoni village in the area.
The governor who was in company of the state commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Chinyere Igwe, Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City, Sunny Ejekwu and Hon Victor Ihunwo member, representing Port Harcourt constituency III in the state house of assembly declared that there is no going back in his administration’s against cultism in the state.
He disclosed that a police station and a community hospital will be sited at the demolished ‘gwo-gwo dawn’ behind the redeemed church.
Addressing newsmen after the demolition exercise, Sunny Ejekwu, CTC chairman of PHALGA lamented that criminals and cultists have made  Eagle Island a save heaven for themselves as they perpetuate all forms of crime on daily basis.
He assured residents of the area of adequate security, adding that the government will make the demolished Andoni village  inhabitable for law abiding citizens to reside and do business.
Mr. Ejekwu also used the medium to warn other criminals and cultists operating from any water fronts in the state that their time is up.
He urged residents of the area to always provide the security agencies with relevant information that would lead to the arrest of these hoodlums.
Our correspondent reports that over 40 suspected cultists and criminals were arrested in the operation.
