Kano flood kills three, destroys crops worth millions of naira

At least three persons were reportedly killed including foodstuff and cash crops worth millions of Naira washed away during a heavy rainfall in Hayin Gwarmai village in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State yesterday.

Chairman of the area, Alhaji Mudansiru Bebeji, while confirming the incidence to newsmen in Kano today said the flood also washed away several farms in area, adding that a number of houses had also been destroyed by the disaster.

Bebeji stated he had since paid a sympathy visit to the victims of the disaster and called on the federal and state governments to come to the aid of the victims to alleviate their sufferings.

He said, “We are calling on the Federal and Kano State governments to assist the victims to reduce their sufferings,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Director, Operations, Kano State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Dambatta, stated that the agency is yet to received an official report on the incident from the local government council but however, promised that as soon as the agency got the report it would forward same to the state government for necessary assistance to the victims.
