New NBA Chief vows to fight corrupt lawyers, government agencies

Newly elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud (SAN), has stated that corrupt members of the association will face the full wrath of the law under his regime.

Mahmoud said this in while chatting with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday .

He said cases of disobedience of court orders by law enforcement agencies, will be fully addressed.

“The responsibility to obey court orders is one of the absolute minimum requirements of the rule of law, so any organ of government that does not respect court orders is undermining the rule of law,” he said.

“This kind of situation is not acceptable as all agencies of government are required under the constitution to respect the rule of law. They have the right to appeal against a court decision but the appeal is not a reason for disobedience to court orders.”

The newly-elected officials will be inaugurated after NBA’s Annual General Conference (AGC) schedule for Port Harcourt between August 19 and 26.
