Kebbi government asks communities to vacate flood-prone areas

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has told farmers and residents in flood-prone areas to vacate their communities due to the impending discharge of water from Bakalori Dam before their homes and properties are overtaken by flood.

He gave the advice in Birnin Kebbi on Monday while addressing members of the communities living in flood-prone areas in the state.

Bagudu said that the advice became necessary in view of the plan to release excess water from various dams in the state and therefore, urged the communities to leave for upland areas in order to forestall loss of lives and property.

He said, “You had better evacuate your farm produce to safer places or take necessary measures to prevent destruction and damages to the crops by the flood,” he said.

The governor assured farmers of the state government’s determination to encourage agricultural production so as to ensure food sufficiency for the citizenry.

He promised to provide fertiliser as well as other farm inputs to farmers at affordable prices.
