The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has fixed October, 2016 as tentative date for the completion of rerun elections in some polling units and senatorial districts in Rivers State.
INEC Regional Commissioner, Amina Zakari stated this Thursday, during a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt.
Zakari said the new date will enable stakeholders act rightly and also tom put things in order.
She continued that the Edo election and other considerations including the Rivers and INEC calendar has made the shift in date inevitable.
She however, assured that on the rescheduled date, elections would hold in all polling units without rancor.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Francis Adesoya assured stakeholders of adequate security during the elections.
INEC equally accepted the result of the rerun election held on March 19, 2016 in Tai Local Government Area of the state.
The commission posited that the election for the council has been concluded and that there will not be any rerun in the area.
Tai is in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District of the state.
According to the earlier result, the All Progressives Congress, APC was said to be leading with over 35, 000 votes as against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which had around 3000 votes.
