Two women lured, raped by men who posed as ladies on Facebook

It was a day of reckoning on Wednesday for two men who posed as ladies on Facebook lured unsuspecting two female victims to an apartment in Cross Rivers State and raped them.

The young men also recorded the act at 1, Atekong, Calabar, the state capital and then demanded the sum of N30, 000 or they will release the video clip on the internet.

A Facebook user, Esame Nkim, who shared the photos of the suspects, wrote: “This is happening live in my place of work. The boys used female names and pictures to make friends with some girls on Facebook.

“The innocent girls were invited to meet with the supposed friend and when the girls got to the address at no. 1 Atekong in Calabar, the boys handed their phone to a girl to go bring in the girls. As soon as the girls entered the house the girl who ushered them in disappeared.

“The two girls were raped by five boys, videotaping their acts and later asked the girls to pay them 30k or the video will be uploaded to the net. They showed the girls clips from their escapades with other girls and how much they paid. As the girls went out in search of the money, they decided to report the case to law enforcement agents and the boys were picked up.

“Beware of who you add as friends,” Nkim added.

DAILY POST contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ms. Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, saying the victims reported the matter to police who arrested the suspects.

While disclosing that the police got the video recording as exhibit, Ugbo said the suspects will be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old bricklayer, identified as Richard Edet who allegedly threw a sex worker inside a gutter after he rape her has been arraigned Wednesday before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The suspect is facing a two-count charge of stealing and rape leveled against him by the police.

 Corporal Friday Mameh, who is the prosecutor told the court that the accused, sometimes in June, committed the alleged offence when he met the complainant, one Gloria Obihor, at a party where he told her that he works with Mobil.

He told the court that the suspect unlawfully assaulted the complainant sexually.

“The defendant and the complainant met again in August at 1004 Estate in Victoria Island and then headed for a bar.

“They took a taxi and the defendant pointed at a house and said that was his residence.

“After they left the bar, the defendant raped the victim, threw her inside a gutter and stole her property and money.

“She shouted for help, but nobody was around to help her.

“The properties that were stolen by the defendant are Samsung X6 phone, valued at N92, 000; Malado wristwatch, valued N40,000; perfume valued at N16,000 and a cash sum of N13,000,” he said.

The complainant raised the alarm when she saw Edet at Oniru beach, Lagos which led to his arrest as he was hit by a vehicle while trying to escape again.

The offence is punishable under Sections 285 and 259 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum, who must be employed in a limited liability company, tax payers and their addresses verified.

The case has been adjourned to September 23.
