Council of State: Jonathan attends as OBJ, IBB, others shun meeting

Reports say the President Mohammadu Buhari is presiding over the Council of State meeting in Abuja.
This is the second time since his election that the president will be presiding over the meeting.

The meeting is usually attended by the vice president who is the deputy chairman of the council; all former presidents and all former heads of the government of the federation; all former Chief Justices of Nigeria; President of the Senate; Speaker of the House of Representatives; state governors and Attorney-General of the Federation.

Those present at the meeting are ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and former interim President of Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

This is the first Council of State meeting Jonathan would be attending since he left office in 2015.

But, we gathered that conspicuously missing at the meeting were Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

We also learnt that other notable members of the council also missing are General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida.
