‘Only APC will develop and secure Bonny, Rivers West’ – Asita

The Rivers State deputy governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 election, Honourable Asita O. Asita has declared that the only APC in Nigeria that has developmental and security plan for the people of Bonny and entire Rivers West Senatorial Zone.

Asita who represented the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the DG, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside made this declaration on Saturday while speaking at the APC Rivers West Senatorial Zonal special rally which took place at the Industrial Unit Field, Bonny as part of preparation for the forthcoming rerun election in Rivers State.

He said, “Again, we are here to tell you that it is the APC that can provide good things of life for the people of Rivers West especially the Bonny-Bomu Road, Ring Road, pipe-borne water just to mention a few. When the federal government is willing to help us and we elect opposition members, would the federal government be able to help us freely?”

Asita assured the people that it is only the APC federal government that will bring about genuine and effective security for the people of Bonny and the entire Rivers West communities.

“We want security; do you want Wike’s security or that of the Federal Government? There are many undecided voters, now take the message to them, we have tried PDP for 16 years and we were not better off, let’s try the APC. By the time the crocodile finishes smiling; our water ways would be safe. If you vote for APC, those armed robbers you previously saw, you shall see them no more,” Asita stated.

In the separate speech, the Rivers South-East Senatorial candidate for forthcoming rerun election, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, stressed that there was unity of purpose in the forthcoming rerun election, stating that Rivers people have resolved to pitch tent with the APC and work for the victory of the party which in turn would provide good future for their people and their children.

“I know it has been a long and torturous journey but nothing good comes easy; work hard and plan hard. Victory is sure by the grace of God,” Abe said.

Earlier, the State Rerun Election Committee Chairman, Engr. Sampson Ngeregbara had, in his speech at the occasion, recalled notable political leaders Bonny and Rivers West produced in the past who brought finesse and colour to politics in the state insisting that they were good leaders.

“Leaders are people who show others direction; they are likened to technicians and for us in APC we have that leader in Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We cannot be in opposition to the centre. In Rivers State, we are relegated as minorities but we as Rivers West Senatorial District should align to the centre. This is our message for you today,” Ngerebara declared.

Among other APC leaders who spoke to the huge crowd of party faithful and enthusiasts was Chief Lolo Ibieneye, the Chairman of the Rivers West Senatorial Election committee. Chief Ibieneye charged party faithful to be steadfast and not be deterred by the killings occasioned by the desperation of the PDP. He asked members to rise for a minute silence to honor the departed.

In a solidarity speech, Hon George Tolofari, the APC Leader in Bonny LGA, drew the attention of party stakeholders present to the loss of party members after the 2015 general elections till date. He appealed to the federal government to expedite action on the Bonny-Bomu Road and provide adequate security on the Port Harcourt-Bonny sea routes in the interim. He urged party faithful to remain strong to the very end.

“It’s not over until it’s over; the APC in Bonny LGA shall continue to do all that is possible until victory is achieved,” Tolofari admonished.

The presentation of the candidates was done by the State Party Chairman, Chief (Dr) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, represented by the State Deputy Chairman, Prince Peter Odike.

“We are here today to present and project our candidates to the people of Rivers West once more ahead of the October rerun elections. We know all things flow from the government at the centre and it would be most unfair for us to deny this government support, since it is incumbent upon the government to support our people. He went ahead to introduce the candidates amidst cheers from the crowd,” the Chairman said.

The APC candidates of Rivers West Senatorial Zone participating in the forthcoming rerun election are Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree (Senate); Hon. Dawari George (Akulga/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency); Hon. Aye Pepple (Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency); Hon Ben Horsfall (Asari-Toru State Constituency II); Hon. Eldred Lulu-Braide (Degema State Constituency]; Hon. Henry Halliday (Bonny State Constituency) and Hope Barango-Tariah (Asari-Toru State Constituency I).
