Yaya Toure retires from international football

Former African player od the year and Ivory Coast international, Yaya Toure, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from international football with the his home country.

The Manchester City midfielder last won the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, with the Elephants in 2015.

The 33-year-old who started his country career in 2004, drop a link on his twitter handle, @YayaToure, where he urged fans to read about his retirement.

He  wrote, “Please see statement on my retirement from international football. http://www.officialyayatoure.com/ivory-coast/yaya-toure-announces-retirement-from-international-football/”

He said, “There are decisions that are difficult to take. But, I have to pass the baton on to the younger [generation].”

“After 14 years at most levels with the Elephants, I [have] come to the end of my adventure with the Ivory Coast.

“I thank all the supporters, all my fans.”

This is coming just the player has surprisingly, found himself out of favour this season at City, with new boss Pep Guardiola starting him in just one competitive match and also demanding an apology from him before he can play fully for the club
