… As Oshiomhole amends public holiday
Ahead the Wednesday gubernatorial election in Edo State, more than 2,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the state, on Sunday, burnt their cards and brooms which is the symbol of their party, to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 5 Esan North East of the state.
This is even as the crisis escalated when the national leader of party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, demanded the removal of APC’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, over what he called the latter’s anti-democratic handling of the party affairs.
Tinubu had accused Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo State by sending the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the decision of the appeal panel that demanded for a fresh governorship primary election in the party for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Meanwhile, the Edo State government has amended the earlier declared public holidays by exempting banks and corporate organisations from the public holiday declared for Tuesday, September 27.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole had on Saturday declared Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28 work-free-days.
The government said public holiday was declared to enable voters in the state travel to their various locations and exercise their voting rights on Wednesday, September 28.
However, banks and corporate community are now exempted from the public holiday on Tuesday, September 27, in order not to slow down the economy of the state.
