Suspected sea pirates found dead in Rivers

Some suspected sea pirates have been found dead after a gun battle with the Nigerian Army along Kula river in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Nigerian Soldiers after receiving a distress call overpowered some suspected sea pirates in a fierce gun battle along Batholomew River around Kula Kingdom.

The Chairman of Kula Kingdom Development Committee, Lolo Awara who confirmed the incident to the media commended the military for their intervention which he said had saved lives and property of the people.

He regretted that the inhabitants of Kula kingdom have suffered in the hands of sea pirates with several souls and property lost.

Awara called for government’s support in the deployment of security operatives and amenities along the water ways.

“The military were swift in their response to the distress call. Those boys have been terrorizing our waterways. Many sea travelers have had one depressing encounter with the Pirates or the other.

“We want to plead with the government to allow Marine Police and the military to continue to patrol our waterways especially in Kula,” he said.
