Kaduna: 24-hour curfew imposed on Jema’a after herdsmen attack

A 24 hour curfew has been imposed on Jema’a local gobernment area of Kaduna State following a peaceful demonstration that almost turned violent.

The Interim management committee Chairmen of Jema’a and Kaura local government areas imposed the 24 hour curfew on Monday after more than 2,000 angry protesters stormed Jema’a local government secretariat over the un-provoked and systematic attacks against their people in Southern Kaduna.

The Chairmen explained that the curfew was necessary to avert any further loss of lives and destruction of property in the local government.

The protesters who earlier converged at Katsit Primary School, Kafanchan took their procession down to Jema’a local government Secretariat, holding placards with inscription, “El-Rufai and your brothers stop the killings,” amongst others.

The spokesman of the protesters, Pastor Chawaison Nathan, said, “It is no longer rumour that there is a grand plan that is well schemed to annihilate the good people of Southern Kaduna and make our land desolate.

“There is un-imaginable support from high places in forms of finances, supply of weapons and mercenaries where expertise is required.

“Our people are killed both young, old, men, women and even children are not spared, which appears to be a complete cleasing carried against the Christian dominated area.”

Pastor Chawaison maintained that despite the wanton killings against the people of Southern Kaduna, the government of the day remained‎ uninterested in the suffering of the victims by telling the world lies while innocent souls were been strangled every-day to the extent that more than eight villages had been deserted.

Also reacting, a Pastor with the Governors assembly, Kafanchan, Pastor Gideon Mutum, said, “The killings going on in Southern Kaduna have resulted to

more than 5,000 thousand internally displaced persons.

“Myself, I have camped more than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons in Takau and the government is doing nothing about it to come to their rescue,” he lamented.

According to him, “What is going on in Southern Kaduna is a deliberate genocide against the people of the area.

“They have been killing us in the name of herdsmen and there have never been any arrest by the government. The only thing we heard the governor has done is that he has even gone ahead to find the perpetrators from Chad, Mali and

Senegal to compensate them.

“If this attacks continue unabated, we have no alternative than to ask our people to use all legal means to protect themselves.”
