Fake journalist, 67 others arrested in Lagos

One Soji Gboye has been arrested by officials of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit for allegedly parading himself as a journalist.

The 36-year-old was apprehended in the Maryland area of the state along with 67 hoodlums.

Gboye reportedly confessed to the task force team, led by the Chairman of the agency, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, that he impersonated a journalist to sort out himself whenever he had issues with security agents.

According to Punch, Lagos State Commissioner of Police had ordered that Gboye be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

The spokesperson for the task force, Taofik Adebayo, who confirmed the arrest, said other suspects would be charged to court.

He said, “The man said he was a journalist with Television Continental. He could not properly identify himself when interrogated by the chairman of the agency.

“He confessed that he never worked with TVC, adding that he only pretended to be a journalist when he had issues with uniformed men.

“Sixty seven other hoodlums were arrested and traders selling or displaying wares/goods at unauthorised places were dislodged.”
