Rivers: Gunmen attack bar, kill policeman

Tragedy struck Thursday night in Port Harcourt as gunmen launched a deadly attack on a popular drinking bar near the Rivers State Capital, Port Harcourt, leaving a Policeman on duty dead.

The incident, we gathered, took place at the newly-opened Fojeh Bar, Rukpokwu, in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the State, forcing customers and passers-by to scamper for safety.

According to a source, “some people came to the bar last night and shot the Policeman.”

Asked  if the Policeman was alone on duty, the source, which pleaded anonymity explained: “they are always two, but one went for Police verification. We were in the Bar and when we heard the sound of the gun, everybody ran away. I think their target was the Policeman. He was rushed to the Hospital, but he could not make it. He is dead. They took his gun.”

The identity of the Policeman could not be immediately verified at the time f filing this report.

Also, the Rivers State Police Spokesman, DSP Nnamdi Omoni was yet to respond to the incident.
