Rivers: Cultist invade community, kill 8

Atleast eight persons were reportedly killed in what is believed to be a reprisal attack by suspected cultists, Thursday, in Oduoha community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Phspectator gathered that one of the cult groups in the area, Degbam, had stormed the community sometime last month, where a member of the Icelander group was reportedly killed.

Community sources alleged that cultists suspected to be members of Icelanders were in the community to avenge their colleague’s death, leading to the killing of the persons.

The source stated that the suspected cultists went from house to house, killing their targets, adding that most of the victims were members of the opposing cult gang in the area.

The source said the suspected cultist invaded the community in the night.

“We were sleeping last night when all of a sudden we started hearing gunshots.

“The shooting was so heavy that some people ran out of their houses. They were shooting and braking into houses for hours. Most of the people they killed are believed to be members of the Deygbam cult.”

While confirming the incidence, Public Relations Officer of the state’s Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said the Commissioner of Police in the state has mobilised men to restore peace in Oduoha.

According to him: “We are aware of the incident at Oduoha community. It is cult related attack.

“A chief from the community called in the early hours of yesterday to inform the police.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Zaki, made immediate deployment of our men in the area. We have evacuated the corpses to the mortuary.

“Our vehicles have been stationed there to ensure that no reprisal takes place there. No arrest has been made, but our men are combing bushes in the area to ensure that we get the culprits.”
