Flood hits Biseni community in Bayelsa

Reports say floods have displaced scores of persons in some communities in Biseni clan of Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State.

Fish farms, farmlands, crops, homes and church buildings are said to have been overtaken by the  waters.

The situation has led to  several persons moving out of their homes.

According to a social media post by a concern resident of the area, inhabitants are appealing to government to sand fill the community as well as construct embankment to save them from the perennial flooding in the area.

Biseni is one of the clans in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa state, located along the taylor creek, a tributary of the river niger.

The clan is made up of about ten communities, most of them located on low lying planes, making them susceptible to flooding especially from September to November each year.

PH Spectattor recalls that during 2012 flood disaster, the areas were among the worst hit in the country with water submerging most houses, roads and other properties.

The  head of chiefs of Egbebiri communities, comprising Egbebiri one and two as well as Akudoma, Chief Oyowah Charles said this year, the flood level seem to have been more than that experienced last year.

Some women of the area said they have been forced to harvest their crops prematurely.

 Residents of the area also said socio-economic life has also been affected by the rampaging water.

 Paramount  ruler of Akudonu Community, Chief Jena Nduka appealed to government and relevant authorities to come to their rescue and find lasting solution to the problem.
