Former Libaria football star and a one-time World Footballer of the Year,George Opong Weah, has been sworn in as Liberia’s new president.
Weah took his oath of office at exactly noon Monday, inside the 35,000 capacity Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia.
No fewer than eight African Heads of States, including President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by Vice Present Yemi Osinbajo, and international soccer stars witnessed the ceremony.
Weah, 51, took over from Nobel laureate, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who spent 12 years in office.
He is the only African to be crowned world footballer of the year.
