Let’s save APC – Abe

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has appealed to leaders of the party to tone down the level of mudslinging and focus on how to save the party in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja particularly on the crisis in the Rivers State chapter of the party, Abe said the problem facing the APC needs the urgent attention of President Muhammadu Buhari before it is finally drowned by few selfish individuals.

” I respectfully call on our president not to surrender our nation to men without conscience, this party must distance itself from the show of shame that is currently going on in Rivers State.

” This party cannot trade its soul to massage the ego of any individual. An order of the court is an order of the court. There must be a limit to how we can descend in obeisance to power.

” It has become clear that my party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has reached a point where it must take a decision either to live up to the core values of our leader and do the right thing or abandon our values and destroy our soul in order to please the selfish interest of one man.

Abe called for caution among elders of the party when discussing matters concerning the party and its members in the state, saying that he nominated the Director-General of Dakuku Peterside Campaign Organization after the party’s governorship primaries in 2014..

The senator said, “After the 2014 primaries I was given the privilege by the party to nominate a DG (Director-General) for the Dakuku campaign and I nominated Victor Giadom. He was not at the meeting when I nominated him and I could have nominated anyone else if I so wished.

“The expectation was that the DG coming from me will work to close the Gaps in the party. How well that worked is left for the public to Judge. It should be clear that taking a position I gave to you can not be a source of disagreement with me. There must be another reason. Let elders behave like elders, let us tone down the mudslinging and focus on how we can save the party.”

Abe, who is also the senator representing Rivers South-East district in the National Assembly said he has deliberately refused from joining issues with members of the APC in the state unnecessarily.

He said, “I have restrained myself from joining issues with members of our party unnecessarily. All this acrimony will not help the party and it deflects from the main issues.

“But just to set the records straight, I have always expressed appreciation to the Hon Minister  of Transportation for his support to all of us in the 2015 elections including the court process. All of us who took part in the process will recollect the many contributions made by others including myself.

“I have refrained from talking about all these so as not to give the impression that I am in any way unappreciative of the contributions of others. The logistics challenges and others were enormous but we came together as one family and shouldered it all.

While condemning the attacks on the judiciary in Rivers State, Senator Abe described it as a show of shame and insists that such ‘show of shame’ should not be encouraged by right thinking members of the Nigerian public.
