Lulu-Briggs decries level of political disharmony in Rivers, pledges unity

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has expressed sadness  over the level of political acrimony and disharmony in the state.

Lulu-Briggs said this while fielding questions from newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, adding that something needed to be done quickly to restore peace and unity and to save the state from collapsing.

According to him, there is a high level of political acrimony, and disharmony in the state owing to the rivalry between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The political crises in the two major parties are such that we shall no longer have state, crises that has plunged us into all manner of disharmony and has introduced a lot of hate into our politics.

“It’s so bad here, brothers and sisters no longer greet themselves, families have been badly divided across political lines.

“This is not the Rivers we used to know, that is why we need to urgently bring ourselves together as one people and the choice for Accord Party, I believe, is the hand of God,” he said.

Lulu-Briggs expressed readiness to restore the state to its original peaceful state.

“For us to get it right here in Rivers we need to unify everyone, if we don’t get the politics right, we can’t get governance right and if we can’t get governance right then the economy would continue to remain as porous as it is.

“We are in this race to win on the platform of Accord Party; we are peaceful and Rivers people can attest to that,” he said.

The Accord Party candidate said that if elected as governor, he would create an enabling environment for economic development in the state.

” I would want also to bring Rivers online; with what obtains in every state this is serious in human capital development,” he said.

Lulu-Briggs urged his party supporters and other residents in the state to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs,) to elect a candidate of their choice in the 2019 governorship election.

Lulu-Briggs who was a former governorship aspirant for both APC and PDP in the state, stressed the need for voters to elect credible candidates in the forthcoming general elections regardless of party affiliation.

“The electorate should begin to look at what individuals have to offer and not the political parties because political parties have been badly reduced to mere platforms for political power grabbing.

“Nigerians should begin to vote for credibility and trust; that’s why I feel this is an opportunity for Rivers people to vote rightly for the Accord Party,” he said.
