UPTH records breakthrough, celebrates first AVF conception

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has recorded its first breakthrough in the area of Assisted Reproductive Conception as a lady who had been undergoing In Vitro Fertilization was on Monday 7th January 2019,  successfully delivered of a bouncy baby boy.

Chief Medical Director , CMD, of the hospital, Professor Henry Ugboma who led some officials to the Postnatal Ward on a felicitation visit to the baby, commended the mother for believing in the hospital’s capacity to handle her case, noting that her act of faith challenged the hospital team to do its best in ensuring a successful outcome.

He also showered praises on the head of the Assisted Reproductive Conception (ARC) unit, Professor John Ikimalo and his team  for  justifying the huge investment made by the hospital in the area of training and equipment.

The CMD assured members of the public to take advantage of the hospital’s IVF services, noting that it was the most cost-effective one available.

Earlier, the Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Preye Fiebai expressed gratitude to God for the milestone, describing it as the outcome of collaboration by staff of various discipline and sub-specialties.

He  also commended the hospital’s Management for creating the enabling environment to achieve such a notable feat, assuring that every support needed by the ARC unit will be made available in order to sustain the gains currently being celebrated.

Speaking,  the Head of the Assisted Reproductive Conception Unit Professor John Ikimalo, while thanking God for the feat, recalled the history behind the establishment of the ARC unit in 2007 and the joy of seeing a dream, come true for the family.

He  applauded the roles of past Chief Medical Directors including Dr. Etawo, and Professor Ojule and the current Chief Medical Director Professor Ugboma for their support.

 Mother of the miracle baby (name withheld) expressed joy and gratitude to God for ending years of pains and sorrow waiting for the fruit of the womb.

She also commended the hospital for delivering on its promise as a reliable centre for In vitro fertilization services, urging other intending mothers to take advantages of the ARC facility to experience the joy of motherhood.
