The Rivers state government has called for calm from people of the state concerning the recent discovery of the outbreak of dreaded Monkeypox disease in the state.
The state Commissioner for Health Prof. Princewill Chike stated this while confirming that three suspected cases of the disease were reported in Port Harcourt.
Princewill announced this while briefing journalists in Port Harcout and explained that the cases were discovered last Thursday at Rumoulumeni, Eneka and Psychiatric road areas of the state.
Meanwhile, despite the outbreak, the Bayelsa State government said it has taken all necessary measures to contain its spread.
At a News Conference in Yenagoa the state capital, Commissioner For Health Ebitimitula Etebu and his Information and Orientation counterpart Daniel Iworiso-Markson further allayed the fears of the people with an assurance that the virus will be effectively contained.
As a preventive and protective measure, the Commissioners also presented Hand Sanitizers to the Rapid Response Team of the State Ministry of Health.
They urged the people to wash their hands regularly.
