Cult war has led to the killing of an unspecified number of persons in Luawii and Zaakpon communities in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident occurred at the weekend.
Community sources said gunmen barricaded Zaakpon and Luawii Roads while shooting sporadically from 6 to 8 am on Saturday morning.
The sources said the attack on both communities lasted for over 5 hours leading to the death of many persons.
An earlier attack on Luawii community on March 9 led to the beheading of 2 men while a teenage girl and a man were also shot dead in their home.
The Rivers State Police Command could not immediately respond to inquiries on the incidence.
Chairman of the council, Barr. Lahteh Looloo who confirmed the incidence on a live radio programme in Port Harcourt said the incidence was purely cult related and has nothing to do with elections in the area.
Looloo who could not also give an accurate number of the casualty, however, assured the people that his council is doing everything possible to restore peace in the communities.
Also speaking, the spokesman of Conscience of Ogoni, Chief Gani Topba blamed the escalating cult war in the area on political leaders.
Topba who hail from Zaakpon said he has made several attempts to broker a truce between the warring factions in the community but to no avail.
He also said several resolutions reached by leaders of the area has not been implemented by those entrusted with the responsibility to do so.
