Governorship candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in Rivers State, Engr Biokpomabo Awara has said that his former deputy governorship candidate, Chief Akpo Bombaa Yeeh did not in form him about his resignation from the party.

Awara, while reacting to the defection of his deputy to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday,  described the action as deceptive and an act of betrayal.

The Kalabari-born politician said: “ All through yesterday we where together on phone and he never told me about his resignation from the party, I’m just seeing it on social media. You can see how deceptive people can be.”

He said Yeeh’s defection does not in anyway affect his chances of becoming governor of the state.

“I am not bordered by his defection. It has no implication whatsoever on my aspiration”, he said.

The defection came eight days to the resumption of collation of results for the March 9 governorship election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Chief Yeeh while announcing his resignation and subsequent defection on Monday said his decision was bordered on the hijack of the party’s structure by a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC in River State led by the minister of transport, Chibuike Amaechi.

The APC backed AAC, on 18 March, sued INEC over alleged plans to rig the guber election in favour of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The party also sought the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the state, Obo Effanga.

The party in the suit also asked INEC to further desist from concluding the results Collation Process.

The former deputy guber candidate accused the minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of trying to use the party for his selfish gains.
