Floating corpse causes panic in Rivers community

The corpse of a yet to be identified woman discovered floating on a river in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State has is now causing panic among residents of the area.

It was gathered that the woman’s body was found floating on the water close to Ibuluya Ama Okrika.

At press time, no one knows the cause of her death but locals say she might have possibly drowned.

Okrika local government area is one of the riverine areas in Rivers State and the people are known for their fishing prowess.

Community sources said the corpse was discovered floating on the river when people from the community went to fetch water.

The source said “When he came to the river this morning, we thought that it was someone taking her bath but her body looked bloated and she was not moving any part of her body.

“We yelled at her and threw objects but she was only being moved by the water current and we had to raise an alarm.

“The body was evacuated after authorities were duly informed”

The identity of the deceased woman still remains unknown.

The police was yet to respond to inquiries on the matter.
