Rivers NLC re-elects Beatrice Itubo as Chairperson

Incumbent chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, in Rivers State, Comrade Beatrice Itubo has been re-elected for another term at the just concluded 2019 state delegate conference.

Itubo emerged winner with 366 votes defeating her opponent Comrade Henry Urombo who score only 55 votes.

The NLC National President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, who was represented by the President of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Comrade Ben Nnabue, declared the result.

In her victory speech, comrade Beatrice Itubo who expressed gratitude to the delegates for re-electing her, called for their continuous support and promised to tackle all the challenges confronting the labour work force, such as their arrears, promotions, pension and minimum wage.

She also declared no victor and no vanquish at the 2019 delegate conference, adding that her office is open to everyone for collective work.

Our correspondents reports that other state executive council members who were unopposed are: Chuku Emecheta 1st Vice Chairman, Temple Marfford 2nd Vice Chairman, Awashi Eze Treasurer, Boms Chuks Auditor, Lilywest Auditor 2, Lucky Nkpogene Ex-Officio and Ariohe Franklin Ex-Officio.

Meanwhile, Comrade Henry Urombo has said that the election was marred by irregularities and vote buying.

Urombo who spoke with journalists after the election alleged that delegates where openly asking for money to vote, stressing that he refused to bribe anybody because he came out to serve the workers.

PHSpectator recalls that prior to the election there were several resistance to the candidature of Itubo since she has retired from active service, but Itubo on her part said although she has retired but she is the Principal Organising Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, an affiliate body of the NLC which made her eligible to contest the election.
