Rivers: Council chairman demolishes illegal shops in market

By: Felix Ikpotor

The authorities of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council in Rivers State says it will no longer tolerate the erection of illegal market stalls in the council area.

According to a statement by the council’s media unit, the Executive Chairman, Prince Solomon Abel Eke stated this while supervising the demolition of illegal market stalls at the Rumuomasi market.

He said that the council has not allotted space to anyone or group to erect stalls in the market and expressed dismay over the failure of the market management committee to inform the council of the illegal stalls.

Eke emphasized that the council will not tolerate any illegal stalls that would deface the market, adding that the council will continue to modernize its markets.

PHSpectator recalls that the council boss had earlier carried out similar action at the Rumuokoro axis of the council.
