Obuah overwhelmed over compliance during sanitation

Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro. Felix Obuah has applauded residents and those doing business in the State for their great turnout in today’s sanitation exercise across the State.

Bro. Obuah, who spoke shortly after monitoring the exercise in some sections of Port Harcourt, the State capital, and its environs, also commended the people for complying with the restriction of human and vehicular movement order.

He said that he was overwhelmed with the participation of residents in the areas covered during the exercise which include Ikwerre Road, Waterlines, Old GRA, Garrison, Ogbunabali, Station Road, Rumuola, Rumueme, Rumuokwuta, Artillery, amongst others.

Obuah who was accompanied by a team of RIWAMA officials, including the Director of Administration, Mr Ian Abraham Gobo and journalists also monitored the exercise in Aba Road through UTC to Industry Road, before rounding off at Creek Road in the old Port Harcourt Township.

However, the RIWAMA boss said he was stunned at the large and enthusiastic participation of members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Creek Road parish and youths of Orogbum in Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt city.

While urging other churches, faith-based organizations, youth bodies and community development communities to emulate the ‘shinning’ example of these groups in the cleaning of their surroundings, Bro. Obuah revealed that the Orogbum Youths Association have been invited to his office for what he called ‘special appreciation’, in recognition of the massive involvement in today’s Sanitation exercise.

“If other people can emulate what the Orogbum Youths Association and Redeemed Christian Church of God Church did today, then Port Harcourt would indeed be the dream land of everyone”, he said.

Bro. Obuah also lauded the efforts of the 23 local government chairmen and the councilors in mobilizing their subjects to participate in the Sanitation exercise.

While noting that the local government administrators have proving their worth as true leaders, the RIWAMA Sole Administrator urged them to keep up the tempo in future sanitation exercises.

He also commended security agents for ensuring the enforcement of the ‘no human and vehicular movement’ order between the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., even as he extolled the roles played by traditional rulers, chiefs, youths, women and opinion leaders in ensuring that the exercise was successful at the rural areas.

On the volume of wastes generated during the exercise, which were noticed in most of the roads visited, the Sole Administrator attributed it to the huge participation of residents in the exercise, adding that evacuation of those wastes would last till the end of today, because of the volume, he however, appealed to residents to bear with the Agency as efforts are being made to ensure that all wastes generated during today’s Sanitation exercise were adequately evacuated.

Obuah advised Rivers people to join hands with Governor Ny esom Wike to ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the State are kept clean and healthy at all times.

Some persons were arrested and prosecuted by the Special Sanitation Court for various sanitation offences.
