The Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party of Nigeria has threatened to mobilize the civil society or take a legal action against the state governor, Nyesom Wike if he fails to constitute his cabinet after 7 days.
State Chairman of the party, Prince Favour Reuben made the position of the party known while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday.
He said the Governor cannot govern the state effectively without a cabinet.
“It is becoming worrisome that after four months of swearing in of the state governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, he has refused to properly constitute the executive arm of government, this must be condemned and we must all rise to demand for good governance and dividends of democracy,” he said.
He added: ” We are calling on Governor, Nyesom Wike to urgently, within 7 days, properly appoint commissioners to contribute in the effective running of the state. The state executive cannot be run by one man”.
The party chair threatened that, “ upon his failure, we will mobilize the civil society to protest against the act of shortchanging the good people of Rivers State or approach the law court”.
Prince Favour also charged the governor on decentralization of the state capital by initiating capital projects across the twenty three local government areas to boost the state economy.
“We are tired of one city state despite the accrued resources to the state.
” The governor should urgently concentrate on governance and initiate capital projects and revisit the Greater Port Harcourt City project with a view of justifying the huge financial resources of the state,” he said.
