Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike says the introduction of Operation Sting has reduced crime and criminality in the state.
Wike stated this during the 2019 Professional Managers Forum in Port Harcourt organized by the Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered, Port Harcourt Chapter.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Dr.George Nweke, Wike said the return of peace in the state has increased oil production within the period.
He also used the avenue to ask business community in Rivers State to pay their taxes and support government policies.
The Governor said the State Government is doing a lot with the little resources it is receiving from the Federal Government as monthly allocation to improve infrastructural development in the state.
In his address, the Senate Committee Chairman on Navy, Senator George Sekibo said security is every body’s business.
George Sekibo, however, asks Nigerians to give useful information to security agencies.
Meanwhile, a former Governor of Rivers State, Celestine Omehia says poor synergy between heads of security agencies in the country are one of the causes of the proliferation of small arms in Niger Delta.
Celestine Omehia who said this while speaking as a guest during the Forum opined that security agencies can only tackle the increase of small arms in the country when they work together to end the problem.
Celestine Omehia also said community policing is the best solution to insecurity in Nigeria.
The Chairman Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered, Port Harcourt Chapter, Christian Abu, in his address said the aim of the programme is to proffer solutions to the social issues facing the Niger Delta region.
Christian Abu said the Institute wants to use the forum to map out a workable roadmap to the management and development issues in the region.
“It is a famous and acceptable view that poor management has been the bane of development in Nigeria. Instead of sitting by, criticizing government and trading endless blame on why the nation has not gotten it right over the years, the institute through its chapters, branches, zones, and national programmes has continually tried to find solutions to the problems of governance.
“The Port Harcourt Chapter is using the opportunity provided by this Professional Managers’ Forum to proffer viable and workable roadmap to the management and development issues in our region”. he said.
