…. Recommend painting of commercial vehicles

The Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has recommended that 0.3% of Local Government Council funds be deducted monthly to fund the office of Auditor General for Local Government.
This was contained in the report presented by the committee chairman, Hon Major Jack yesterday during plenary when he presented his committees reports on the Audit Bill.
The lawmaker said the recommendation was in line with section 116 of the Local Government law no 5 of 2018.
The committee in its report also recommended that the remuneration, salaries and other entitlements of the Auditor General for the State be charged from the consolidated revenue fund of the state.
It also recommended that: “the Auditor General for the State or any person authorized by him to audit government business enterprises shall ensure forensic, financial compliance or value for money audit in performing his functions,” noting that “Auditor General for the state shall liaise with any person, relevant federal government authorities, ministries, departments, agency and international bodies for proper discharge of his duties”.
After the presentation, the House adjourned debate on the report to 27th January, 2020 when the house resumes for plenary.
Similarly, the House has moved to compel all commercial vehicle operators in the state to revert to the blue-white-blue traditional colour.
The House took the move after Hon Prince Lezina representing Khana Constituency 2 moved a motion calling on the assembly to mandate the State Ministry of Transport to enforce the painting.
The lawmaker in the motion noted that painting the vehicles in the traditional Rivers colour would help to beautify the state.
