Two bag life imprisonment for kidnapping Senator Sekibo’s wife

Two persons,  Abel Okoro and Vincent Wilson have been sentenced to life imprisonment, for kidnapping the wife of Senator George Thompson-Sekibo, Asime G.T. Sekibo and her two friends.

This was contained in a judgment delivered by Justice Rlsie Thompson of the Rivers State High Court on Wednesday.

Justice  Thompson ruled in agreement with the position of the prosecution counsel that the confessional statements by the defendants, which revealed how they conspired to commit the crime were made voluntarily and not by any form of inducement.

The judge also ruled that the court found the accused guilty of count three and four which bother on conspiracy, attempted kidnap and kidnapped of Princess Asime Sekibo and Evelyn Awinika-Osai and sentenced them to life imprisonment without an option of fine.

Recall that Princess Asime Sekibo wife of the Senator, Evelyn Awinika-Osai and another of their friend was reported to have been kidnapped within the Obiri Ikwerre axis of East-West road, on their way back from Study at the University of Port Harcourt, on the 22nd March 2012.

The accused were arraigned in court on the 21st September 2012 and faced a nine-count charge of felony, kidnapping, Armed robbery and rape.

The two accused were reported to have collected a total sum of ten million naira from the family of the victims as ransom, around Mbiama area in Ahoada West local government before the victims were released.
