NDDC acting MD slumps during probe

Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei, the acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Monday, fainted during the ongoing probe into the financial misappropriation in the commission by the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC.

He collapsed after the lawmakers asked him to explain where he got the approval to spend 536 million naira which was given to some persons to clear points communications to help NDDC identify projects.

The committee is sitting in its fourth day of the public hearing in its investigation into alleged financial misappropriation at the agency.

Pondei, a professor of medicine was being grilled for over an hour and when he slowly slumped over his desk, appearing too weak.

Those present rushed to his aid, propping him up and attempting to stabilise him, while proceedings halted.

He also appeared to be in a seizure with a man holding open his mouth as others held him upright.

When he appeared to regained consciousness, he was moved out of the session.

There was a discussion by the committee about the next step to take while a move to have the session adjourned was shouted before the Deputy Chairman of the Committee called for a 30-minute recess.
