One Sokariba Levi has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt for chopping-off his uncle’s left wrist.
Levi committed the crime in June 2007 in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The convict who committed the crime on June 18, 2007, was standing trial on three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, intention to cause grievous harm and inflicting grievous harm on his uncle, JACOB CHUKWU.
The accused person now 31 years-old committed the crime in 2007 when he was 18 years old.
The Presiding Judge, Justice George Omereji, while delivering judgment on the matter found Sokariba Levi guilty on count two and three after the prosecuting lawyer proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused person committed the crime.
The accused person was discharged of the first count of conspiracy.
Justice George Omereji also sentenced the accused person to ten years imprisonment with hard labour for count two and five years imprisonment without hard labour for count three.
Omereji ordered that the sentence will run concurrently.
Speaking outside the courtroom, the Principal State Counsel, Deima Tamunopubo, said the judgment will serve as justice for the victim of the crime.
He said the victim is permanently disabled due to the act committed by Sokariba Levi.
E.O.CHINDA, the lawyer of the convicted person Sokariba Levi said they will appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
