A group, Friends Of Ogoni Trust (FOOT) Worldwide has criticized Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent approval to construct another flyover at the GRA junction of Port Harcourt at the cost of N18billion.
The Country Director of the international think-tank group, Mr Teeh Kabari said that the approval of the fourth flyover construction by Wike was a waste of money.
Citing his reasons for criticising the fourth flyover construction, Kabari said the money would have been used for the development of some local government areas that are in serious need of development.
He said: “Like other patriotic Rivers sons and daughters, I think that a fourth flyover construction is absolutely unnecessary because there is a flyover at Rumuola junction which is currently being expanded.
“There is another flyover at Garrison Bus Stop and also at Artillery Bus Stop under constructions and I believe will reduce the vehicular traffic at GRA junction when completed and fully in service.
“Fixing flyover again at GRA junction will deface the beauty of the place because such construction will lead to the demolition of some existing structures in that axis.
“That N18billlion he has approved for the construction of the GRA junction flyover would have been used in critical infrastructural development at the two other senatorial districts of the state.
“We have major government neglected towns like Omoku, Bori, Ahoada, etc, if we put that N18billion into the development of these towns, it will go a long way in lifting the standard of the people.”
