As reactions continue to trail the recent hike in electricity tariff and petroleum pump prices by the Federal Government.
The lawmaker representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Dumnamene Dekor has said that the action of the Federal Government at this time when Nigerians are yet to recover fully from the economic crunch inflicted by the COVID 19 pandemic is apparently ill-timed and most insensitive .
Speaking on a National Television Programme monitored by Port Harcourt Spectator, the Federal Legislator called on the government to have a rethink and reverse what he described as anti-people and draconian policies in view of the negative signals it has impacted on the socio-economic lives of the masses.
The lawmaker said , “it is sad that when many countries are introducing policies that would ameliorate the hardship poised by COVID-19 pandemic on their citizens , the APC- led Administration is introducing measures to create more pains and exploit our people “.
Dekor noted that “families are suffering and people are dying, yet we have a Government that is unable to feel the pulse of her people”.
He further stated :”there is a hike in food prices due to poor economy.
For instance, a bag of rice is sold at N34,000 naira and the low income earners cannot afford it, yet you are asking this same Nigerians to buy fuel at N162 per litre and also pay twice or thrice on the electricity that they doesn’t consume “.
He described the development as most unfortunate, wicked, unfair and totally unacceptable to the Nigerian people and urged President Mohammadu Buhari to reverse the decision without delay to save the poor masses from economic strangulation.
