Miss Comfort Eze, the lady who was allegedly stripped naked by some members of a local vigilante group, OSPAC for allegedly stealing cassava at Ovogo community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State is calling for the arrest and prosecution of those that molested and abused her.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim, said she had gone to her farm to harvest cassava as well as a little from her neighbor’s but was accosted on her way back by OSPAC members who accused her of stealing.
Miss Eze while explaining further said she was stripped naked completely by the members of OSPAC, paraded around the community, the incident filmed and posted on social media.
The victim revealed that OSPAC seized her bicycle and handset and demanded a fine of sixty thousand (60,000) naira, of which she was able to pay fifty-two thousand (52,000) naira, and they are yet to release her bicycle and phone to date.
She called on relevant authorities to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the alleged crime.
But, OSPAC Commander in Emohua, Emeka Wori, admitted being aware of the incident but condemned the actions of its members led by the Chief Security Officer CSO of Ovogo who have refused to answer the invitation of the State Security Service, DSS.
Mr. Wori promised to ensure the arrest of the Ovogo unit commander if he fails to submit himself for investigation, stressing that the OSPAC headquarters is not in support of their actions.
Meanwhile, a representative of the International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA, Edna Amadi, described the actions of OSPAC members as inhumane at this time of civilization.
Edna explained that the lady in question would have been handed over to the appropriate authority for disciplinary action if truly she stole the cassava which is an offense.
She called on relevant authorities to join hands with the association to fight the injustice meted out on the lady.
Also speaking, Prince Wiro, a human rights activist urged the police, the Local Council Authority, and OSPAC leadership in the LGA to fish out all the people involved in the crime for justice to prevail.
